Dennis Ritchie was the man. Let’s also not forget that he created Unix with Ken Thompson. Apple was pretty much on life support until the switch to Mac OS X, which has Unix at its core. Steve Jobs would have been a failed, washed-up former executive of a bankrupt company if it wasn’t for the work began by Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson. Yet, the man whose work is at the core of the entire computer industry, Dennis Ritchie, got no respect when he passed.
